Central San Diego consists of the following communities and cities; Kensington, Mission Valley, San Carlos, Talmadge, Del Cerro, Mission Hills, North Park, Sorrento Mesa and Tierrasanta. Kensington is one of the most desirable urban neighborhoods to live in San Diego. With it’s picturesque Spanish-style homes, compact walking neighborhoods and many delicious restaurants. Kensington and Talmadge are often grouped as one community.Del Cerro, located in the eastern part of San Diego, is a wealthy residential area with boarding communities of San Carlos, Allied Gardens, College Area, Grantville and La Mesa. Located in Mission Hills are two historic districts, The Mission Hills Historic District and the Fort Stockton Line Historic District, but the area is primarily residential. North Park is located northeast of Balboa Park and offers a wide variety of delicious bars and restaurants. North Park is most famous for its big North Park sign that can be seen from 30th street and University Avenue. Sorrento Mesa is a neighborhood located in the northern part of the city on the mesa overlooking the valley. Tierrasanta, Spanish for “holy land”, is a community situated like an island, not directly bordered by any community, offering many activities from hiking and biking to golfing and fine dining.
